Technology Student Association & Robotics

The engineering pathway at West Forsyth High is comprised of three core courses:

-Foundations of Engineering and Technology

-Engineering Applications

-Research and Design

In addition, the Engineering program at WFHS is active with the following offerings.

• Vex Robotics
• First Robotics Competition
• Electrathon America
• National Manufacturing Day

West Forsyth TSA Offers a Variety of Competitive and Training Activities:

CORE                         (Clayton, Georgia, usually early September, 3 days total)

Technology Day       (Perry, Ga., usually mid October, 1 day)

Leadercon                 (Jekyll Island, Ga., usually mid November, 3 days)

TSA State Leadership Conference (Athens, Ga., usually mid March, 4 days)

VEX Robotics is a club for West students and is part of the Forsyth Robotics Alliance. It is offered at all grade levels, and builds smaller robots that fit in an 18 inch x 18 x 18 box. It is year-long commitment. Students in the competitive club typically spend about 4 to 8 hours a week, sometimes more on their bots, with most of the hours being flexible hours. 

Competitions are a flurry of activity, with volunteer hours from technical professionals from the community, teachers and club sponsors from across the area,  as well as students from other clubs in the host school that are necessary to make them happen.  It takes a minimum of 15 volunteers to make it possible for even the smallest of these tournaments  happen. therefore family involvement is also needed to help keep the activities going and organized; however, the work on the robots is done by the students.
